Smartshape technology provides a seamless bridge between the software world of design and the physical world of engineering, procurement, construction, and commercial operations. DND, Directorate Architecture and Engineering Services (DAES) is implementing a Real Property Spatial Data Warehouse (RPSDW) to serve as a central ‘Enterprise Data Environment’ for all real property information. The RPSDW will provide the tools and interfaces that promote engagement and collaboration in the management of real property information. Smartshape has a role to play at all levels, from acting as a collaboration tool for gathering and management of spatial data to simply having a cross-platform viewing tool for the various data formats stored in the warehouse.
What is the purpose of Smartshape?
As part of the RPSDW program, DND will be implementing data collection programs to capture large amounts of terrestrial exterior and in-building asset data. Smartshape offers APIs and an electronic form to collect and locate interior and exterior equipment information. As well, it can handle large volumes of point cloud data. Point cloud data is used in creating 2D CAD General Floor Plans, which enable the visual inspection and examination of those assets. Smartshape optimization tools support the efficient dissemination of point clouds across the web—allowing users to visualize the data in a 3D environment.
