Software FRENCH

ADM(IE) is working closely with MCE, ADM(IM), and SSC to rationalize and centrally license spatial software for DWAN users. As these software products become sanctioned for use, you will find them under Run Advertised Programs in the control panel on any DWAN connected computer.

Software tools for Real Property

ADM(IE) is centrally managing and deploy specialized engineering and scientific software that is fundamental to real property management. This includes software titles from ESRI, Autodesk, Safe Software (FME), and Archibus. The aim is to reduce the administrative costs associated with managing software and contracts, and to gain operational efficiencies through enterprise software deployment. All titles will be deployed on DWAN; users may install vis the Run Advertised Programs once they have been approved for use.

Autodesk 2018 from Autodesk

Autodesk software is widely used throughout DND to support O & M (operations and maintenance) as well as AEC (Architecture Engineering Construction) project delivery activities. As DND digitalizes its real property portfolio, tools such as AutoCAD will be supplemented on the DWAN network by modelling tools like Revit, Civil 3D, and Navisworks which are used to manage information models of real property assets. All existing licenses of Autodesk products across the organization are consolidated and funded centrally by DAES. Autodesk software from the 2018 suite will be managed centrally and network deployed where feasible. DAES is working closely with national support groups in ADM(IM) as well as Shared Services Canada (SSC) to support these activities. Users requiring Autodesk titles should put in a request via an Assyst ticket.

ArcGIS Software from ESRI

ESRI software is the primary GIS tool used by ADM(IE) headquarters and RP Ops Dets as well as Environment and RTA units in the L1s. ArcGIS Desktop is used to perform spatial analysis and visualization of real property assets as well as to manage attribute information needed to link to corporate systems. ADM(IE) is fulfilling the LCAM role for ESRI software used to manage real property information for ADM(IE). ESRI tools used by other L1s to support operations as well as embedded systems (i.e. vehicle navigation systems) will be out of scope for ADM(IE) rationalization. ADM(IE) is working closely with MCE, ADM(IM), and SSC to rationalize and centrally license ESRI software. This process will occur over the course of FY 2020-21. RFCs are being undertaken to prepare for the introduction of ArcGIS Pro 2.5. This 64 bit platform has enhanced 3D support for integrating site analysis and building information and will replace ArcGIS Desktop.

FME ETL Software from Safe

Spatial Extract Transform Load (ETL) capabilities are critical for standardization and validation processes needed to support integration of spatial data into business systems. FME Desktop is Canadian technology from Safe Software and is deployed in ADM(IE) and RP Ops Dets, as well as other L1s. FME technology is the engine that drives the Data Interoperability extension for ArcGIS Desktop and ArcGIS Pro software from ESRI. FME Server is a key piece of technology used to support back end data validation processes in the MCE environment. An FME Server license is now connected to the DWAN and its capabilities will be extended to spatial users on the network.
